Second Career

What is Second Career?

The Second Career program supports laid-off individuals (laid off on or after January 1, 2005) who require skills training to assist them to find employment in high-demand occupations in Ontario.

What does it provide?

Second Career is a cost-sharing grant provided on the basis of individual need, so you may be asked to contribute what you can to your training or education. Second Career provides financial assistance (up to $28,000) for:

  • Income support
  • Tuition
  • Books

Additional funds may be available for:

  • Disability supports
  • Child care
  • Living away from home
  • Academic upgraming

How do I apply?

Meet with an Employment Advisor at MTW Employment Services to discuss your needs and to complete the Eligibility and Suitability Matrix to determine your eligibility to apply for Second Career funding. If eligible, you will be provided with all the information you require to proceed with the next step of information gathering and researching. Your Employment Advisor will assist you with your application package and then submit it to the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities for processing where the decision will be made whether your funding has been approved or not.
