Employment Counseling

Intake Interview & Needs Assessment

For those who require job search assistance, our knowledgeable Resource Clerk will quickly assess your needs and, if required, refer you to one of our Employment Advisors. When you first meet with an Employment Advisor, an intake interview will be done with you to discuss your job search needs, your work history, your educational background, and your barriers to employment. Together with your Employment Advisor, you'll be able to identify the steps that need to be taken whether it's as straight forward as needing a resume or more in-depth such as needing retraining.

Career Planning

Our Employment Advisors can assist you to make the best career choice for you. Using a variety of tools and assessments, they can determine which careers suit your personality type, match your interests, consider your work values, and are in demand in the labour market. They can also help you to find the colleges that offer that type of training. For more information on training and available funding, see the Second Career page.

Overcoming Barriers

After completing a needs assessment and intake interview, we will assist you to overcome any barriers to employment whether you lack job search skills, education, or work experience, or you don't have adequate housing, clothing for your job search, or childcare. Our Employment Advisors have the knowledge to guide you in the right direction in order to overcome these barriers.

Job Retention

Have you been fired or quit a job more than once in the past two years? Our Employment Advisors at MTW Employment Services can help you to identify and resolve some of the underlying issues (eg. time management, working as a team member, dealing with conflict on the job, employer expectations, etc). Perhaps you're not choosing the right jobs or maybe you need to gain some of the crucial skills needed to keep a job. We can help because we believe that everyone is employable.

Referrals

If you require additional assistance, your Employment Advisor will refer you to other services to assist you in reaching your goals.
