Personal Support Worker (2)
Part Time

Geraldton District Hospital is seeking a Personal Support Worker (PSW) to deliver resident focused personal care to the residents of the John Owen’s Evans Residence, provide assistance to clients in the Adult Day Program and provide in-home daily-living assistance.

Duties Include:

  • Assists residents/clients with personal care according to their plan of care 
  • Makes and changes resident/patient beds, cleans and tidies resident/patient rooms 
  • Assist clients with shopping, meal planning and light housekeeping and keeping clients’ environment clean, safe and secure 
  • Prepares nutritious, varied and economical meals and snacks, including special diets, as determined by the care plan, and uses proper food preparation, storage and hygiene practices. 
  • Recognizes and reports concerns and changes in resident/client behavior/condition to the RN or RPN and documents observations in the resident’s electronic chart. 
  • Distributes fluids/snack/meals to residents/clients according to their plan of care 
  • Spend one-to-one (1:1) or group time with the residents/clients during down times. 
  • Communicates day-to-day resident/patient occurrences to RN or RPN 
  • Assist with the Adult Day Program; services may include leisure activities, meals and personal care 
  • Assists patients with assisted living services ie housekeeping, laundry, preparing meals, medication reminders and personal hygiene activities. 
  • Performs specific interventions according to individual resident/patient care plans 
  • Measures and records intake and output and collects specimens as requested 
  • Operates mechanical lifts and utilizes assistive devices as directed and trained for. 
  • Ensures assistive devices are labelled and cleaned as per assistive aide washing schedule. 
  • Completion of resident Nursing Restorative Programs, exercises and related documentation


  • Graduate of a recognized Personal Support Worker Course or equivalent program 
  • Current CPR certification 
  • Experience working with seniors and/or chronic care residents in a health care facility or assisted living is an asset 
  • Excellent communication skills, including written documentation 
  • Ability to work as a team member or independently 
  • Must be physically able to perform the essential duties of the job 
  • Ability to communicate in both official languages would be an asset
