Wasa-Nabin Youth Program Worker

Qualifications
 Post-secondary education in Indigenous studies, Social Work, Child and Youth Work or in related field is preferred; or a combination of equivalent and relevant education and work related experience.
 Preferably additional training in Life Skills Counseling, Anger Management, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, Domestic Violence, Crisis Intervention and Prevention.
 Knowledge of the Friendship Centre and the various programs provided to the community.
 Background in cognitive behavioral theoretical techniques.
 Experience in financial administration processes and budget management is preferred.
 Experience in conducting need assessments and the development of a plan of action.
 Knowledge of social resources available in the area to be served.
 Must have experience in planning, coordinating, implementing and monitoring community-based programming.
 Must have experience in program development, data collection, data management, file maintenance, proposal writing and evaluation.
 Must have an understanding of Indigenous culture and the social realities that Indigenous people experience in an urban setting.
 Ability to work as a team member and meet deadlines with minimum supervision.
 Excellent communication, facilitation skills and experience working with diverse groups.
 Knowledge of computers and various applications. (Word processing, database programs, internet and email)
 Must be willing to occasionally work evenings and/or weekends.
 Must have a Criminal Reference check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screening completed and approved prior to the commencement of the position.
 Standard First Aid and CPR Level C would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities
 Follow and adhere to program guidelines.
 Ensure the development and implementation of a full range of program services.
 Conducts needs assessments for youth and develop plans of action to meet needs.
 Initiate and participate in case conferences as necessary.
 Coordinate individual and group activities (physical, social).
 Participate in training and evaluation processes to ensure continued growth and development of the Wasa-Nabin Program.
 Liaise with community youth services.
 Assist in youth development through increasing life skills, safety awareness, nutrition and healthy physical development activities, anti-violence training and youth diversion initiatives.
 Increase cultural understanding of youth and their families.
 Engage in: ”one to one” counseling and peer support, as youth require.
 Promote inter-generational activities
