Greenstone Mine – Senior Geotechnical Engineer TMF

Greenstone Gold Mines L.P. is a 60/40 joint venture partnership between Equinox Gold and Orion Mine Finance Group formed for the purpose of the joint ownership and development of the Greenstone Gold Property including the Greenstone Mine located on a historical mine site in the Geraldton-Beardmore Greenstone belt in Ontario.  The Greenstone Mine is managed directly by a dynamic and experienced Owner’s team, with an estimated $1.5 Billion investment over the three-year construction and commissioning phase, and a 14-year operating life of mine.

 

Greenstone Mine is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team. Reporting to the TMF Superintendent, the Senior Geotechnical Engineer will act as the technical advisor and oversee critical infrastructure tasks such as water management infrastructure, Tailing Management Facilities (TMF) and Waste Rock Storage Facilities (WRSF). The incumbent will act as the Qualified Person (QP) for the Greenstone infrastructure projects.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
• Ensure compliance to corporate safety standards and government regulations.
• Establish a formal relationship with the Engineer of Record (EoR) to ensure construction and operation is compliant with the design intent.
• Organize and participate in bi-annual independent review board meetings.
• Manage consultants to deliver work scopes on time and on budget.
• Ensure that surface geotechnical instrumentation, systems and geotechnical knowledge are utilized efficiently and effectively.
• Implement and direct best practices in geotechnical engineering, mine design and mining operations to ensure safety and business objectives are achieved.
• Prepare surface geotechnical internal and external status reports, summaries, analyses and correspondence as required by technical or regulatory agencies.
• Be current with respect to maintaining surface geotechnical documents, risk registers, reports, and drawings.
• Update, implement and take ownership of Operation, Maintenance & Surveillance manuals for TMF & WRSF, water management infrastructures and participate in developing the open pit Ground Control Management Plan.
• Develop, optimize and communicate the deposition plan and overall tailings and waste rock management strategy.
• Participate in budgeting and forecasting exercises and ensure adequate project cost control

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
• Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering (master’s degree preferred), or an engineering degree with equivalent work experience
• 10 years of engineering experience, preferably in the mining field
• Experience in design, construction and operations of mining dams/dikes or Waste Rock Storage Facilities is considered an asset

 

LOCATION
• This position will be on a rotation (4/3 or 5/2) based in Geraldton, Ontario. Hybrid work schedules may also be discussed with the successful candidate.
